The Itinerary
Your adventure begins in the charming village of Easdale, Scotland, a place steeped in history and surrounded by rugged coastal beauty. Here, you’ll meet your experienced skipper and board one of the open-back Catemerans — renowned for their stability at sea, ensuring a smooth and steady ride ideal for photography. With cameras at the ready, we’ll set sail towards the spectacular Slate Islands, a remote and untamed archipelago that includes Scarba, Lunga, and Eileach an Naoimh, along with countless smaller rocky outcrops that serve as sanctuary for remarkable seabirds. If conditions allow, we may even venture beyond Mull to explore the stunning isle of Staffa.
As we weave through these wild and remote landscapes, there is the thrilling possibility of encountering Scotland’s most iconic wildlife, from the graceful dolphins and majestic whales to the mighty white-tailed sea eagle as it swoops down in search of prey. No two journeys are ever the same, with the unpredictability of nature making each excursion a one-of-a-kind experience. To capture the finest shots of these awe-inspiring creatures, a zoom lens of around 500mm (300mm aps-c) or more is recommended, along with plenty of spare batteries and memory cards for this eight-hour adventure. Since we’ll be at sea throughout the trip, bringing your own lunch and snacks is essential. The weather can be as unpredictable as the wildlife, so layering up and packing waterproofs is advised—what starts as a sunny departure may quickly change once we’re out on the open water. For those looking to take a break from the elements, the vessel offers a spacious cabin and onboard toilet for added comfort. Upon returning to shore, we’ll gather to share our experiences, exchange tips, and reflect on the day’s incredible captures—ensuring you leave with not only breathtaking images but also cherished memories from this extraordinary expedition.

Departing from Easdale Harbour with the skipper’s expert knowledge of the tides, wildlife, and ever-changing sea conditions, the route will be carefully chosen to provide the best possible experience with the chance of encountering seals, dolphins, porpoises, and a variety of seabirds as you travel through these remarkable waters.
If the weather and timing allow, your voyage may extend westward, passing the Isle of Mull on the way to the spectacular Isle of Staffa. Famous for its dramatic basalt columns and the awe-inspiring Fingal’s Cave, Staffa is also a haven for puffins, which nest on its cliffs during the warmer months. Watching these delightful birds swoop in and out of their burrows is a highlight of any visit to the island.
Whether the journey remains within the Slate Isles or ventures further to Staffa, this adventure promises stunning coastal scenery, rich wildlife encounters, and a deep connection with Scotland’s maritime heritage.
